Whoops! Sorry for the lateness.
This week the kids are continuing to choose their reading at home. Please read 100 minutes by next Monday. We've started multiplying one digit by two digit numbers (for example, 4 x 35). This is challenging! I will be showing the students many different strategies, but the first strategy will be the "traditional way." This is the way you would have learned in school. I find this makes things easier for homework help. I also think it's a good time to re-post the link to the English version of their math book: http://www.sacredheartacademy.ca/documents/general/Optional%20Home%20Learning.pdf I'll also include this in our "Links" section of the blog so you can always find it if you need it! Students get a choice of reading again this week! They should read for 100 minutes by next Monday. Please remember to record your minutes and the book your read. Also, some students will also be responsible for bringing home some books from guided reading.
I thought it might be useful to post what pages we're doing in math. Although the students will get the chance to finish it in class, some may have to bring their work home with them. Tuesday - pages 124 - 125 (multiplying 10s, 100s, 1000s) Wednesday - worksheet (practice work) Thursday - pages 126 - 127 (estimating multiplication) Friday - worksheet (one digit times three digit practice) Thursday's work: https://bboard.now.sh/ It's Valentine's Day week! We will have a small celebration on Friday. Parents are welcome to send in treats, but as always please ensure that they are tree nut and peanut free.
To celebrate Valentine's Day, we will be having a multiplication and division quiz! The kids have created some flash cards to work on the problems they find difficult. As with last week, this week students should be reading their English book club books. They are welcome to read additional books. Some kids find their books a bit easy, so this is a good chance for them to challenge themselves a bit. Here is a video of "Le chandail d'hockey." We read it on Monday. Chapter 15 of City of Ember This week's homework page looks a little different! We are starting our English book clubs. Instead of reading for 100 minutes, instead your child will be reading a few pages every night in their book club books. They don't need to read aloud - they just need to read and record their pages.
This week we are starting division. I encourage everyone to practice their multiplication tables at home. Five minutes a night can make a huge difference! Parents and guardians: If you have the time (it takes abot 5 minutes), please consider filling out this literacy/numeracy survey from UPEI: https://health.ahs.upei.ca/literacy/enqhndlr.php |
