It has been lovely seeing you all during interviews! If anyone did not get a chance to sign up, please drop me a line and we can arrange something! Also, Monday will be a pajama day/board game day. Students are welcome to bring in their favourite board games to play with the class. French This week, we are mostly working on reading. We will work in guided reading groups and concentrate on comprehension activities. Many students are bringing home French books this week, and any extra practice at home would really be helpful. We are also continuing our work on conjugating verbs. For those who would like some extra practice, pages 1 and 2 of the following document are helpful: www.bdrp.ch/system/files/docs/2017-02-18/8p_le_present.pdf English We have English vocabulary words this week. The kids will be studying long "o" sounds. The most important thing isn't to memorize the vocabulary words, but rather to recognize the patterns that make a long o sound. The following pack has a few long "o" activities to help students recognize those patterns: cdn.thisreadingmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Long-o-Vowel-Pack.pdf We will also continue reading Varjak Paw. I didn't get a chance to post the Youtube videos with the chapters last week, so here they are. It starts with Chapter one, but the whole book is up. Last week we got to Chapter seven, and I suspect we will probably get to chapter 12 this week: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFF5m7gTV_w&list=PL3kA-gpaSB2bCI7wkcvsSCaiLQ6TCTCpP Maths
We are comparing fractions this week! In grade four, students are expected to be able to compare fractions with like denominators or like numerators. The following link allows you to build you own worksheet. For those who would like some extra practice, it's a great place to start: www.math-aids.com/Fractions/Denominator_Numerator_Comparison.html I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend! I learned all kinds of new things at PEITF, and I'm excited to be back on Monday. I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone at interviews this week. If you haven't gotten a chance to schedule a time yet, please contact me and we can figure something out. French We are writing a paragraph of the week in French this week. Students will write about a mystery staff member. We are also working on verbs for our vocabulary. Please check out "Vocabulary words of the week." It seems like a lot, but we really just want to know the endings of words. English We are starting one of my favourite novels this week - Varjak Paw. I will post Youtube videos of the chapters for those who are missing them. This is such a great book, and I know the students will love it too Maths We are continuing our work in fractions. This week we have a tough one - fractions of a set. Below, I'll place a video explaining it. It can be a little tricky for kids to get. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nST5wnUMG70&t=115s We will be working on this math sheet in class, but I thought I'd include it here:
www.superteacherworksheets.com/fractions/fractions-of-groups1_TWMBD.pdf On Thursday, we will be looking at food webs and our relationship with habitats. Here's the website the kids will be using in the morning:
www.jeux.org/jeu/habitat.html Because we are only here for two days this week, we will be having a science theme for the week! Underneath I'll be including some of the resources (along with some extras) we will be looking at:
