Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful weekend. We have a short week this week. French This week, we are doing a lot of writing! We will be writing in our journals and finishing up a writing assignment started last week. On Wednesday, I may ask some students to take their unfinished work home if necessary! Also, we have started our vocabulary words in French. If you check the "Vocabulary Words of the Week" tab, you can see them there. Students can practice their words at home. English The kids have really embraced English writing, and we will be continuing to write in English throughout the week. On Wednesday, we are starting Epic. This is a great reading app. Here's a link below: Our class code is: ycn8595 Maths We are still looking at big numbers in math. On Tuesday, the students played a game called "Diffy." There are apps of it available, but here's a link to a pdf of the game: I'll shortly be putting up some online math games in another post that students can use at home as well.

If you haven't, please send them in as soon as possible! Meet the Teacher is tonight (at 5), and picture days are Tuesday and Wednesday (I'll check to see which of those days are ours). French This week we are just starting our reading. Students are welcome to bring books home from school, but I will be setting up an online system in the next few weeks for students to have access to. I suggest students read about 100 minutes a week in French. English We are starting word study and word work! For now, we are sticking to the same list, but after Christmas there will be grouped lists. For students who would like a bit of extra practice, here's a worksheet on long and short vowels https://www.easyteacherworksheets.com/pages/pdf/languagearts/phonics/longashorta/5.htmlwww.easyteacherworksheets.com/pages/pdf/languagearts/phonics/longashorta/5.html Maths We are starting the year with number sense (place value, how "big" numbers are, etc). One piece of homework that I will be asking the kids to do is to look online or through newspapers for examples of big numbers. Flyers are really good for this - especially real estate sections. We want to see real life examples of big numbers. |
