Don't forget that it's school spirit week. Here's the schedule: Tuesday - Crazy hat/hair day Wednesday - Summer fun day (plus an extra recess!) Thursday - Superstar day Here's what we're up to this week: French - we are working on writing stories, looking at pluralizing adjectives, and reader's workshop. I've sent some French books home with students, but anyone can do extra work by reading at home in French English - we are working on our English vocabulary words. I'll update the words ASAP in the "Vocabulary Words of the Week" section of the blog. Practicing for a few minutes a night can make a big difference! Also, we're continuing to read "City of Ember." Here is a Youtube of some of the chapters we will be reading: www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5dyQ5qBBZc&t=9s www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs_3WnAq230 We are also writing stories in our author's notebooks. For those who would like to see more about our writing prompts, they can check them out here: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick Math We are starting the "big" multiplication! That means one digit times two digit. Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful March break. We are jumping right back into things. French We are concentrating on our reading skills. Several students will be bringing home books to practice. I'll send a quick email to parents who should expect some books home to read. With that, I get that many people are busy and don't have time to practice. Please just do what you can! We will also be working on our grammar, specifically words with the [in] and [oin] sound. Here's a worksheet that students could practice at home: lps13.free.fr/contenu/eleve/fichiers%20pdf/1247_oin.pdf English We are starting to read the book "City of Ember." It's a fantastic novel that I think students will really love. Here's a Youtube video with chapter one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVIQyW9YGBU&list=PLoAB-7mUl9ir1qQv9OH_8yjsQS8ln829z&index=2 Science: We are learning about fossils this week! On Tuesday, the students will be making their own fossils. Later on, we will start really looking at erosion. Right now erosion is evident on all of our coastlines. If any of you are taking walks on the beach in the next few weeks take a look at what some are doing to prevent erosion. Sometimes it's cement blocks, netting, and more sandstone. Math: We are taking multiplication and division to the next level. By the end of this unit, students should be able to multiply one digit by three digits, and divide three digits by one digit ("long division"). As always, practicing the multiplication table at home can really help with this. Here are some worksheets the students can practice with: www.k5learning.com/free-math-worksheets/fourth-grade-4/multiply-in-columns We are almost to March break! With our unexpected week off we have a lot of catching up to do. Today (Monday) was so packed we didn't have time to put together our portfolios, but I'm hoping it will be finished tomorrow. French This week we are getting in lots of reading before the break! I have sent some kids home with guided reading books that they can practice. They can read them quietly or out loud. Whatever works best for them! English We are finishing up our book clubs this week. On Tuesday we will have our third session, and on Friday we will have our final session and celebration! Math We are continuing our work on division this week. Practicing the multiplication table at home is a great way to work on this. For those who would like some extra practice, here is a worksheet builder to help. It comes with it's own correction sheet: https://www.math-aids.com/Division/Times_Tables_Division_Drill.html Science
We are still working on our rocks and minerals unit. This week we are learning about fossils. Here is the Bill Nye video we watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRFbl8a2BUA Well, we are in for an interesting week! Because we are only in for Thursday (pending any announcements), we won't worry about vocabulary words for this week. With that, we have been given a bit of extra time to get our book club reading done. If you haven't finished your book club section you have plenty of time to finish before Thursday. In math, we will be finally starting division! For those who would like to get ahead, here is a short video that explains things: fr.khanacademy.org/math/be-2eme-primaire2/x6c9dff81cba6a244:nombres-1/x6c9dff81cba6a244:divisions-avec-reste-ex-37-5-7-reste-2/v/division-1 Check out this site on different kinds of rocks and the rock cycle: https://www.ducksters.com/science/rocks.php I have a bit of surprise for your "journal de bord" this week. We will be doing things a bit differently!
This is more for March in general, but we are starting the Canadian map. We've played this game before, but it's a great warm up: https://online.seterra.com/fr/vgp/3006 Parents and guardians - you have probably heard that in person parent teacher meetings are canceled. Instead, we will be doing virtual or phone interviews. I have a staff meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and I'll know more after then. I'll contact you all by email as soon as I know for sure what is going on. With that, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. |
