There's a lot going on this week, so I'm also sending out an email as well! The grade 6 students will be selling ice cream sandwiches for 1.50$. Orders need to be in by Thursday, and delivery will be on Friday. It's the book fair this week! 4A's purchasing day is this Thursday, June1. French This week in French we are working on building paragraphs. We will look at paragraph structure, and how to build more complex and interesting sentences. We are also getting new guided reading books on Monday. Students will be putting the books into their homework bags, but reading at home is optional. English We are continuing to write our persuasive texts this week. Last week we worked on differentiating between facts and opinions. This week we will work on the "body" of our texts. This should be about three paragraphs (for our three arguments). Students can bring books home if they like. Also, on Tuesday we will all be getting the same spelling list words. They will be based on difficult words we've observed in class. Maths We will be finishing up area this week with a final project on Friday. French This week we are working on the "Groupe du nom" or "Groupe nominal" and the "sujet" of a sentence. This is basically the "subject" of a sentence. Students will learn how to support their opinion with facts. We are also going to go over sentence structure in English (to mirror our work in French). 57 ÷ 2 The rest of the questions will be shorter divisions with remainder and multiplication. We are kicking off our 70th anniversary celebrations this week! Students are invited to bring in non perishable items for the food bank. Our goal is to have 70 items per class. Science We are returning to our rocks and minerals unit this week. On Monday, we will learn all about the rock cycle. During the week, students will work on explaining the rock cycle in their own words. They can either explain it in a presentation to me, or in writing. I will be working for the following key words: métamorphique, sédimentaire, sédiments, chaleur, pression, magma, ignée. We will be finishing up our multiplication and division unit this week, with a short evaluation next Monday. Students should be able to multiply one digit times three digit numbers, and divide two digit numbers by one digit (with a remainder). I will email some parents if I find their child might benefit from some extra practice at home. English We are starting persuasive texts in English this week! Students will be exploring different persuasive techniques, and different forms of persuasive texts. We will also be continuing with our word work, and reading "City of Ember." French In French we will continue to explore sentence types. We will also be looking at writing techniques (such as writing with more detail and voice). French: We have finished our opinion letters, so this week we will be concentrating on our grammar and reading skills.
