It was lovely meeting with you all this week! I'll be contacting some of you in the next little while to follow up on some of our discussions.. Here's what we're up to this week: French Our guided reading is in full swing. A reminder that students can practice their books at home. Please ensure that students bring their books in every day! For students who would like a little bit more French reading, here's a great site with tons of French fairy tales: Les contes English This week, we all have the same vocabulary words. I've attached a few of them on the "Vocabulary Words of the Week" tab. We are looking at contractions. It's particularly important that students understand where to place them. Here are a couple of worksheets to practice: Contractions Also, we are starting English guided reading! We are also reading fairy tales. Students are welcome to practice at home. We are also continuing our work on our stories. If students would like to continue their stories at home, they are welcome to bring their blue scribblers with them. Maths We are starting to compare fractions! In grade four, students should be able to compare fractions with like denominators or like numerators. Here's a little worksheet that can help reinforce this: Comparing fractions Technology We are starting lots of fun technology stuff this week! On Tuesday, we will begin to learn to code. Here's the website we will be using: https://makecode.microbit.org/ Social studies We are starting to learn all about mapping, and specifically the PEI map. Here's a copy of the PEI map: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/points-of-interest-map

If you haven't already done so, please register for parent teacher interviews! Remember that phone interviews are an option, and if you can't make the dates provided then please contact me. We can work something out. French This week, we will be continuing our work on verbs and reviewing verbs in the present tense. This is all materials students have seen in previous grades - they are just review. We will also continue with guided reading. One way to support your child at home with this would be to encourage them to read their books at home. We will be getting new books this week. They are fables, and students will have specific "roles" to play. This will just be for fun, and students aren't required to "perform" them. English We are learning about stories and story structures. Students will keep writing in their author's notebooks and prepare for writing their own stories. We will also be getting new word work words. Students can find these on Google Classroom. Maths In mental math, we are working on the multiplication table review (up to 5 x 5). Here's a great little website students can use to practice their tables. We will return to this when we officially start multiplication after Christmas: https://www.timestables.com/ In our class, we are keeping up our fraction work. This week we will be concentrating on fractions of a set. This can be a tough concept, so here's a youtube link explaining it in English: Fractions of a set Today in class we learned about the Mysteries of Harris Burdick. I've linked a copy of the pictures below for those who would like a closer look. Mysteries of Harris Burdick The most frustrating thing about Burdick is that we really don't know what the stories were meant to be! With that, readers over the years have attempted to fill in the blank (including some famous authors!). The following link has music inspired by the pictures, as well as some reader stories. Who is Harris Burdick? We're in for another short week this week! Here's what we will be covering: French As I mentioned in my email last week, we are starting guided reading. All students have a French book to work on. They can practice this at home. As always, they can always supplement their French reading with books from the classroom or from the library. We are also reviewing verbs this week. Here's a worksheet with a correction page for those who want a bit more practice: Le présent de l'indicatif English In English this week we are building our author's notebook. We are getting ready to start our narrative unit, so we will be doing some exercises to pump ourselves up. Students can also work on their word work from last week. I won't start a new week since it's two short weeks. Maths We finished our unit on addition and subtraction, and we're starting fractions. Here's a short video to help. It goes a bit beyond what we will be working on, but it's a good foundation: Les fractions Other stuff Don't forget that it's time to register for interviews! A form went home last week that will guide you through the process. If you're unable to meet on the dates given please drop me a line! I'll do what I can to accommodate. We have a math quiz on Monday! As promised, I will always put (what I consider) the toughest question here on the blog. Feel free to share your answers in the comments!
Effectue la soustraction. Vérifie ta réponse. 712 - 588. Vérifie: Wow! It's already November! This week we are primarily working on our writing. We're going to finish up two major projects - our English slideshows and our French informational texts. There will be some time in class to do this, but some students may need to take their work home with them. French - Work on your informational writing! - We are starting guided reading. I'll be contacting the parents of students who are currently in a group so that they can practice their books at home! Over the next few weeks most of you will hear from me. - We will continue to work on adjectives, and will be learning about pronouns as well. Here's an explanation, as well as a worksheet: https://www.ccdmd.qc.ca/media/allo_pron_dis_034Allophones.pdf English I'm hoping to finish Mystery at Cranberry Farm this week . We will work on predicting texts. Also, this week we will have a lesson on capitalization. Here's an extra activity for students: https://www.k5learning.com/free-grammar-worksheets/fourth-grade-4/capitalization Maths
We are having our first quiz in a week! Next Monday we will be assessed on addition and subtraction. Honestly, subtraction seems to be the most challenging part. Below this post are some subtraction games that students can play to practice their work. Sciences We will be learning all about the scientific method this week! Here's a Youtube video to explain it: Scientific Method |
