We have a week full of new beginnings - in spelling, math, and writing! Don't forget that this Thursday is Pink Shirt Day. French We will finally be finishing our opinion letters today. Work hard during our classroom sessions, but if we fall behind it may mean taking home some work. I'll let parents and guardians know if their child needs to bring something home! English We have English words this week! I decided to skip last week since it ended up being so short, but we are back to it this week. I'll update the words of the week on Wednesday. We're also continuing our work on our opinion writing. Remember that the lessons we learned in French can be applied to our English work as well. Math We are finishing our multiplication table lessons, and moving on to division! We will relate it to the multiplication table. We will once again be using an on-line booking system for scheduling Parent Teacher Interviews March 4th and 5th . The program is set up the same as the Hot Lunch Program. You will register and select the teacher and time slot that works best for you. Registration for the interviews begins February 22th at 12:00 pm and ends February 26th at 10:00 P.M. Here are some of the things we will be working on this week: French We are finishing up our opinion letters and learning about editing. This will mostly be done in class, but at the end of the week I will be asking students to bring their work home so they can polish it up. English We will be starting book clubs this week! With the storm day on Tuesday I suspect we won't get fully started until Thursday. Some students may choose to bring their book club books home with them. We are also working on a new set of vocabulary words. I'll put them up on Wednesday. Science This week we are working on how to identify rocks. We will be looking at our collections and seeing if we can tell the difference. I will also ask students to bring in rocks they have found so we can try to identify them. English We will be writing an opinion letter to Premier Dennis King! A big thanks to Andrew for coming up with the idea. Math We're putting together all of our multiplication table knowledge. This means practicing and testing. Maths We will be startig multiplication and division this week. In grade 4, students are responsible for knowing the multiplication table up to 10 x 10, as well as the equivalent division table. English We will soon be starting our first book clubs! This can be tricky, as students need to read independently, but we will have time to do this in class. French We will start finishing up our writing unit in the next few weeks. Students should concentrate on working hard in class and learning how to talk about our reading. We are also doing reading conferences so we know what level we're at. Reading at home for a few minutes each night will help a lot! We also have new vocabulary words (up tomorrow). French: We are working on writing about what we are reading in French. The best way to support your child at home with this is for them to read in French a few minutes every night! English: We are also writing opinion texts in English. Students should think about something they want to change - either at school, at home, or in their world. We will do all the writing at school, but helping kids to articulate their feelings and explain why they have that opinion can help them with their writing. We are also working on a new batch of vocabulary words. I will have them up on the blog tomorrow! Maths This Friday we will be finishing our using on decimals and fractions. We will be working in class, but one way to prepare for Friday's quiz is to work on the following question: Represente la fraction 3/10 Sciences We will be starting our science unit this week!
