The weeks are just flying by! Here are some of the things we will be working on this week:
Français I've updated everyone's book on GB+. We will be working with online books this week. A reminder that you can find the books by going to Google Classroom and looking under "Lecture." The instructions on how to log in are there! We will also be working on some vocabulary words (starting on Tuesday). I will update the "Vocabulary words of the Week" section tomorrow. For extra work, students can continue working on their free write at home. English We are finishing up our writing projects on Monday. I expect that a few students will have some work trickling in the next few days, but Monday will be the last day we have time in class to complete them. We will be spending some time in guided reading, and finishing up "The Outlaw Varjak Paw." Maths We are finishing up our unit on time this week. Below this post are a few games students can play at home to practice. We will then move on to our geometry unit. I'll post some links soon for activities to support this! Science On Monday, we finished up our Rube Goldberg machines. From this point on we will be focusing on STEM activities and nature based activities. Fun Stuff We have been growing a hydroponic garden in our class for the past few weeks. On Friday, we will be enjoying the fruits of our labour with a "friendship salad." I'll be sending an email about it, but basically we will enjoy a delicious salad created by us! Our school sports day will also be on Friday (with a rain date of the following Monday). There are a few events coming up this week! As soon as I get confirmation I'll send an email to parents. One event that is happening is that this Friday will be "Twins" or "Dress up as a Teacher" day. It is also Pride Month, and we will be doing some activities around that! French This week we are working on the types of sentences (déclarative, interrogative, exclamative, and imperative). Here's an activity for students who need more practice: https://www.francaisfacile.com/exercices/exercice-francais-2/exercice-francais-75197.php We are also continuing with our free write, and our guided reading sessions. Students are invited to read their French books at home to practice. English In English, we are working on apostrophe usage. The following link has a few worksheets students can use for extra practice: https://www.k5learning.com/free-grammar-worksheets/fourth-grade-4/punctuation/apostrophes-possession We are also working on our final writing evaluation. This is a free write (so it can be any genre) and is due June 11. Some students have already handed their work in! English guided reading is continuing. We just got new books today, so students are again invited to read them at home. Maths We are learning to tell time! It is basically the same in French as in English, except that we use the 24 hr clock (or, as the students reminded me, "army time"). We will be playing the following games in class to practice: Jeu 1 Science In science, we are studying Rube Goldberg machines. We will be building our machines next Friday and the following Monday. I have some materials, but students are encouraged to explore what they could bring from home. Some students are doing an alternative project where they're building bridges out of pasta. We will start some activities on that on Tuesday. The following site has pasta bridges that are way more complicated than what we will do, but it does give some good ideas: https://www.teachengineering.org/activities/view/wpi_spag_act_joy |
