It's Halloween week! There are a lot of fun activities going on, so I thought I'd start with that: On Monday, we are having another pj day! For those who would like to, some students may bring in some "show and tell" items. During the week, there will be a jelly bean guessing game in the music room. There will also be a Halloween colouring contest. As always, students can wear their costumes on Friday. We will have a small Halloween celebration in class. This is less celebratory, but we will be having a lockdown drill on Tuesday. Ok, on to the academic stuff: French: We have three more lessons left for our informational texts. I'd like us to finish our good copies at the beginning of next week. In grammar, we are going to finish adjectives and start on pronouns. Here's an activity to support that: https://www.ccdmd.qc.ca/media/allo_fem_n_067Allophones.pdf English We are still working on our slideshows! We should be finished by this week. Also, it's a word work this week - check Google classroom for your child's words and their slideshows. Math We are working on subtraction this week. Here's a worksheet to practice: https://www.dadsworksheets.com/worksheets/subtraction/sequences-subtraction-hard.html Sciences This week, we are building food webs and studying animal adaptions. Here's a little Youtube video explaining them: Les chaines alimentaires Sorry for the lateness this week! Here's what we're up to: French In French, we are continuing our work on our informational text. Students are welcome to bring their scribblers home with them to get ahead. Some students are getting ready to start their good copies. We're also continuing our work on types of words. This week we're mostly focusing on adjectives and how to change them from masculin to feminine, and singular to plural. Here's a worksheet for those who would like a little extra: Masculin et feminin Maths We are starting to add in math! In grade 4, students should be able to add four digits to four digits (with regrouping). Here's a practice worksheet: Adding worksheet English
In English, we are working on our informational texts on mammals. Students are welcome to work on them at home as well - it's all in google classroom! I hope everyone had a restful long weekend and a happy Thanksgiving! Here's what we're working on this week: French We are continuing to learn about the 8 types of words. This week we'll be learning about determinants and adjectives. Here are some activities to support that learning: Les adjectifs The students are continuing to write informational texts on something they are already an expert on. With that, some students might benefit from researching their subject a bit more. In reading, we are going to work on creating connections between what they are reading and their own life experiences. This is something parents can help with! Talking with your child about what they are reading and what they think of it can really help them make those connections. English We will stick with our same word lists (that can be found on Google Classroom). Students can also work on their research projects on mammals of Prince Edward Island. Here's a great place to do some research: https://www.hww.ca/en/wildlife/mammals/ Not all the mammals are on here, but it's a great place to start!
Math We are finishing up our number sense, and then we'll move on to adding and subtracting. There are all kinds of ways to work on this, but we start with estimating. This can be so challenging for some students. Here's an English video that explains it: Estimating sums and differences A reminder that there will be no school this Friday! French We are working on informational texts in French. Students are welcome to bring some of their texts home to keep working on them if they wish. We are also reading the book, "Quand on était seuls." Here's a video of someone reading it: Quand on était seuls We will also be doing some grammar, and learning how to find a noun in a sentence. Here's an activity to reinforce this: Les noms (explanation) English We are starting our word work! The word lists are available on Google Classroom. Students can practice at home by looking at their words and doing rainbow writing, staircase letters, or a word hunt, where they look in books to find similar words. We are continuing to read "Mystery at Cranberry Farm." Maths This week, we are looking at number lines and how they can help us better understand numbers. We will also start comparing numbers. Here's a link to some worksheets that can help: Comparing numbers worksheets Science In Science, we will be starting to work on food webs. Here's a great video that explains the importance of food webs in the ecosystem (warning - there is a predation scene at about the 2:50 mark. Nothing graphic, but you can skip over it if it bothers you). Wolves of Yellowstone |
