A reminder to register for parent teacher interviews this week! I still have some spaces for Wednesday if anyone would like to meet then instead! French This week, students will continue their work on their French opinion letters. Students are welcome to bring any of their work home with them if they'd like to add in extra details. We will also be getting a new batch of books on Monday. Students are encouraged to read for a few minutes each night. In grammar, we will continue to work on identifying the subject. Here's an information sheet that goes over the concepts (including predicates) in a bit more detail: https://formationadistance.csmb.qc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Sujet-du-verbe-predicat-de-la-phrase.pdf

Here is the article about the connection that "The Rock" has to PEI:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/dwayne-the-rock-johnson-amherst-nova-scotia-family-history-1.6352097?fbclid=IwAR1pm5DzL2l75CO7hSbRp1LH5ifQGdS0l7XfhESLTW48Wnni5vjxD-fB868 Whoops! I realized yesterday that I haven't posted yet for this week. I'll write out this and next week's work. French In French, we are starting a new writing unit on our favourite books! This is an opinion text. Students should explore what they like about certain French books - characters, moments, plots points, etc. We are starting up our guided reading again. Everyone in the class has been assigned a set of books. I encourage all students to practice their books at home. This will help them to increase their fluency. We also have some vocabulary words this week. You can find a copy on the "Vocabulary Words of the Week" tab. English In English, we are continuing our book study of Varjak Paw. I'll make a seperate post with the chapters we read. Also, we are going to be starting opinion writing in English as well. Students will have the opportunity to write about a subject they feel strongly about. We previewed this a bit during online reading, but we will get a chance to see this a bit more officially soon. Maths We have started division, but we are still studying our multiplication tables. We will be having a few quizzes in the next few weeks to see how we are doing. We have already done the 0,1,2,5, and 10 times tables. Here is a schedule of the remaining quizzes: Thursday, February 17 - 3 and 4 times tables. Tuesday, February 22 - 9 times tables Thursday, February 24 - 7 times tables Tuesday, March 1 - 6 and 8 times tables. This link, which we will be using in class, has some great games to practice: https://www.timestables.com/ In celebration of Black History Month, we are currently learning about Black history and celebrating Black accomplishments. Here are some further resources (we've used some of them in class already):
Black Cultural Society of PEI - Postcards from the Island Chapter 8 (II think he's speaking Welsh for the first few seconds of this, but he switches to English!)
These worksheets are especially for any students who are isolating at home, although any student who would like a bit of extra practice could do them. There are answer sheets provided! So far, we have seen comma usage in lists, bracketing, dates, and places.
Comma usage worksheet French In French this week, we will be working on our descriptive paragraphs about our monsters. We will work together to write funny paragraphs describing our monsters in detail. We will also look at passé composé (auxilliare être). I've posted the following worksheets before, but if you'd like to practice, do the first page: Passé composéoraprdnt.uqtr.uquebec.ca/pls/public/docs/GSC2213/O0000289928_le_pass__compos__exercices_et_corrig__web.pdf English In English this week, we will continue to read Varjak Paw. Please check here often as I will be posting Youtubes of each chapter. Also, we are starting to study comma usage. Here's a funny video that goes over it a bit: Eats, Shoots, and Leaves Maths In math, we are mastering the multiplication table. There are so many sites to practice, this but please know that kids are expected to know tables 1-9, and they should be able to say it in five seconds. This takes a lot of practice, so taking a few minutes a day makes a big difference! Social studies We are finishing up our study of the map of Canada this week. Next week we are starting a new science unit I'm super excited about! |
