I can't believe it's already June! Here's what we're up to this week:
French We are working on letters for next year's teachers. This should be our very best, independent work. We will be working on this on Monday and Tuesday, but if some students would like to bring their work home they can. In reading, we are forming new guided reading groups. Everyone will be receiving their books this week. They can practice them at home. English We will be working on picking out our best English writing this week. We have been doing some free writes, so students can bring one of those to a good copy. It will likely take most of the week to get just right. Students may pick the genre, and it must be done individually. Maths We are still in review mode. Some of the things we will be working on this week are one digit by three digit multiplication and simple division. Sciences We are working on Rube Goldberg contraptions. This week we will do a bit of planning. Check back here, as I'll have some videos up soon. Happy May long weekend!
Here are some of the things we are working on this week: French We will be continuing to study our homophones. Specifically, we will look at la/là and son/sont. I linked this last week, but if you'd like some extra (kind of advanced) practice you can try these activities: https://www.ccdmd.qc.ca/fr/exercices_pdf/?id=38 I'm having some issues linking, so you can copy and paste the URL above. English In English, we will work a bit more on our reader's workshop by introducing some new book clubs! These will be a bit shorter, and mostly books we can work on in class. Students can practice a bit at home to increase their fluency. New books will be handed out on Monday. Maths In math we will continue to work on patterns and relations. We will also be reviewing how to order fractions. Here are some games that could help with this. Keep in mind that in Grade 4 students order fractions with either the same numerator or the same denominator. https://www.softschools.com/math/fractions/games/ordering_fractions/ Science We are keeping up our work on simple machines. This week we will be looking a pulley and wheels. I'm also looking for any paper towel tubes that you may have at home. We will use them for science! The blacklight show will be this Wednesday! It will be our first (smaller) assembly in two years. The students and I will discuss behavioural expectations during that time, since we're definitely out of practice! We will also be saying goodbye to our amazing student teacher, Jenna - Marie, this week. French This week in French we are combining our reading and writing skills. We will still have guided reading groups, but we will concentrate on filling our author's notebooks with lots of great ideas. I will be going over some common homophones in French. Here's a link to an explanation plus some activities: Les homophones English We are back on word work this week. The words are on Google classroom. We will also be working on our reading skills, particularly inferencing and synthesizing. Maths We are working on patterns and relations in math. I've included a page with a ton of practice worksheets for anyone who would like to get in some extra practice: Missing numbers addition and subtraction Science We are starting a new science unit! If you look at the post below, there are some activities that go with it. I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! Please check out our "vocabulary words of the week" for our vocabulary words. French This week we will be continuing with last week's words. We will also stay with the same guided reading books as we continue to delve into narrative texts. For our at home work this week I've put up an activity for the verb "Imparfait." There's a lot of work here, but it is fairly straightforward and there is an answer sheet: Imparfait English We will also continue with our English words. We will also look at how to write dialogue. We've touched on this before, but I'd like to revisit it as we look at some narrative texts. Here's a worksheet to practice: Punctuating Dialogue We are starting to review our math concepts this week. After doing a general quiz last week, I've noticed that we need to review our number sense and how to represent decimal numbers. The game linked here has both whole numbers and decimal numbers. This could help some students review! Place Value Games |
