May is here already! A reminder that Friday is our Area Association Meeting, and there will be no school for students. French This week in French, we will be continuing our guided reading sessions. Students are encouraged to read at home for 20 minutes a day. Google Classroom has some links for leveled French books for students. If your child has read all the books posted for them, please let me know and I'll add some more. Also, students are encouraged to keep up their knowledge of grammar. I've left a link that goes over the 8 classes of words, something we talk about a lot in class. There is an explanation, then an activity to test their knowledge: https://www.alloprof.qc.ca/fr/eleves/bv/francais/les-classes-de-mots-f1178 English In English, we are filling up our author's notebooks full of great ideas. We will also be continuing to work on Word work. Please check Google classroom for your child's words. They can practice them at home using some of the activities we've learned in class, such as Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check; Rainbow Writing, Staircase Writing, Speed Sorts, or checking for the word patterns in their own books. Maths We will soon begin to explore patterns and relations in words. This is really fun, as it looks at concepts that students are already familiar with. The following worksheet is a bit of a review for students, but is a good introduction to what we will be doing: https://www.mathworksheetsland.com/4/5gennumb/ip.pdf

We will work on this in English class, but students are welcome to work on this at home as well. Maths We are exploring measurement in math. Students are responsible for understanding how big a square meter and a square centimeter are. Here's a page to help students understand: https://www.mathsisfun.com/measure/metric-area.html Also, last week we played with pentominoes. Here's the site we used: https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/Jigsaw/Tetrominoes.asp?Level=2 Starting Wednesday, we will begin to test some rocks students bring in. Since I suspect we won't be able to test all of them, I'm leaving these links here. You don't necessarily need a test kit (a lot of the things in the kit you probably have at home).
Streak Test French We are finishing our good copies this week. Some students may need to take their copies home with them. In reading, we are reading Noemie. It might be a good idea to go through it and makes sure it has a lot of great strategies inside. |
