French We are continuing with our guided reading groups this week. All students have a selection of French books in their homework bags. I am encouraging them to practice reading their books out loud at home. English We are working on three letter blends in English spelling this week. Check out "Vocabulary Words of the Week" to see some examples. We will also be finishing our good copies of our informational texts. Maths We are finishing the multiplication and division tables, and moving on to one digit times two digit multiplication. Our quiz will be moved to Wednesday. French This week, we will be working on French vocabulary words with the sound [an]. Check out "Vocabulary Words of the Week" if you'd like to practice the words at home. We will keep reading the book "Mammouth Rock." We are also starting new guided reading teams. Over the next few days, students will be assigned books. For extra practice, they could read them at home. English We are continuing to work on our informational texts. This week, we are working on our introduction and conclusion. Some students may be asked to bring their texts home to make sure they are keeping up. Maths We are starting simple division this week! We will have an evaluation on the multiplication and division tables on Friday. The best way for students to master this is to practice for a few minutes a day at home. Here's the site we use: www.typing.com/student/login Hello everyone! Here's what we're up to this week: French: We will be finishing up our guided reading "expert" groups this week. I will start collecting the books and sending students home with new books to read. We will also be starting the book "Mammouth Rock," and looking at non-fiction text features in French. We will explore some alternative non-fiction texts. English: We are continuing to write our non-fiction texts. This week I'm hoping we will be able to finish the body of our text. Our vocabulary words this week are digraphs such as th, sh, ch, wh, and ph. Check out "Vocabulary Words of the Week" on the blog to see some practice words. The kids will start looking at what multiplications they need to practice. Timetables.com remains a great practice site. Another way to help your child is to spend a few mintues a day reviewing some multiplications. Concentrate on the ones they don't know! Sciences We are putting together our volcanoes, fossils, and other models this week to show the class. If time permits, we may start our erosion project. Here's what we're up to this week: French In French this week, we are studying vocabulary words with "o" sounds. Check out "Vocabulary Words of the Week" for some examples! All students were passed guided reading books last week, and the kids are working through them. We are not necessarily reading for fluency - we are reading to gain information English In English, we are starting our informational writing. Students will be writing about something they are an expert in. This week we are gathering ideas and looking at examples. We are also working on punctuation - when do we add it? What are commas for?
