Hello all!
Instead of bombarding you all with emails and blog posts, I thought I'd just post my email of the week here (in case you need to reference it later). A few quick notes: - Thanks for all that you're doing. Parents are superstars, and this is not an easy time. I'm just looking for us to do what we can. If you can't go on to Google classroom every day, or if you can only do a bit, that's just fine. - There will be no lessons up this Friday or next Monday. It's Easter! Here's the email I sent out on Friday: Dear parents and guardians, By now, I’ve spoken to most of you on the phone. Next week we will “go live” with our online learning. I’ll be very honest - this will not be perfect! It has been a steep learning curve for me. With that, most of our learning will be taking place on Google Classroom. There are a few things up there already, and I encourage the students to practice logging in so that they’re comfortable. I don’t doubt that there will be a few wrinkles to iron out, so we will be taking things easy. The format will be one hour of instruction a day. This can be any time of day. I’ll try to have the lessons up by 10:00 am every day. For 15 minutes a day the kids will be working on math, and for the remaining 45 minutes they will be working on French language arts. When they log into Google Classroom, there will be lessons there for them. I’m not 100% sure how it will look, but I will try to make it as simple as possible. They will mostly be a video and maybe some games or writing. At the beginning of each week I’ll send parents an email to give you an idea of what your kids will be doing during the week. The students should be able to work on everything on their own, but it might be helpful to have an idea of what they’re doing. In an effort to reduce the amount of emails, I’ll let you know what I plan to cover for next week: Maths: N7 - division with remainder. We will start the week by reviewing simple division, then we’ll move into the new stuff. An example of division with remainder would be 18 ÷ 5 = 3 r 3. Here’s a link to a Youtube video that explains it in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n7jt4JP3sc French language arts: We will be working a bit on our writing. I’ll be sharing examples with the students, but basically they will be writing to me (in French) about something they know. The kids will be writing to me through Google classroom, so I’ll be able to see what they’ve written and help them along. I suspect this might be a bit confusing at first, so I’ll be online as much as possible Monday to help out. Please be patient as this all rolls out! The coming weeks will get easier and easier as we get used to things. Take care, Jenn
